In the eleventh game of the Israeli Winner Sal League season, Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv won it’s second road game of the week, this time against Maccabi Rishon Lezion, 74-66. MarQuez Haynes (game MVP) and Devin Smith led Maccabi’s scorers with 17 points each. Brian Randle contributed 12 points and 9 rebounds, Alex Tyus added 10 points and 11 rebounds, and Yogev Ohayon (8 points) broke a personal record with 13 assists.
Starters for Maccabi were Yogev Ohayon, Alex Tyus, Brian Randle, Devin Smith, and Jeremy Pargo. Rishon jumped to a 7-2 lead in the first minutes of the game, but Ohayon and Smith stepped up to put Maccabi on top 10-9 halfway through the quarter. Randle, Tyus, and Sofo Schortsanitis scored in the paint to make it 22-13 Maccabi by the end of the period.
The hosts were able to cut their deficit to six as the second quarter got underway, but Randle quickly put Maccabi’s lead into double digits, 29-19. Rishon responded with a 7-0 run in the space of a minute, making it a three point game. Points from downtown by Smith and in the paint by Sofo gave Maccabi some breathing room, and MarQuez Haynes added 8 straight points to end the half with the yellows up 45-33.
Maccabi came out in the second half with guns blazing, as Ohayon, Smith and Randle (dunk off a long alley oop from Ohayon) made it 54-37. The home team got back into the game though, and despite more points from Smith and Tyus, were down by only six going into the final period, 58-52.
The momentum stayed with the hosts as the fourth quarter began, and a pair of triples put them within one after three minutes, 59-58. Despite points by Smith and Tyus, Rishon tied the score at 62 halfway through the period. Points on the fast break by Haynes, a money-time three by Smith, and Tyus with a bucket and one gave the advantage back to Maccabi, 71-62 with two minutes left. From there Rishon couldn’t stage another comeback, and Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv defeated Maccabi Rishon Lezion 74-66.
