Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv overcame a weak first half to defeat Hapoel Eilat 80-72 in their third game in the Israeli Winner Sal League. Guy Pnini (11 rebounds) and Sylven Landesberg were top scorers with 16 points each. Brian Randle and Jeremy Pargo added 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Starters for Maccabi were Jeremy Pargo, Devin Smith, Brian Randle, Jake Cohen and Yogev Ohayon. Eilat opened strong and ran to 14-8 by the middle of the period with points by MacGuire and Palmer. Maccabi made a string of turnovers that enabled Eilat to take a double digit lead by the end of the period, 24-12.
Eilat continued to dominate at the start of the second quarter, reaching 30-16 after three minutes. Pnini And Randle each scored five straight to get Maccabi back into the game, and with points by Ohayon and Sylven Landesberg the deficit was cut to only six, 36-30. It didn’t take Eilat long to reopen their lead, and when the half ended on a nice alley oop from Ohayon to Randle for the dunk, the score stood at 43-34.
The second half opened with eight straight points by Landesberg (including assists from Smith and Randle) to put Maccabi within one after only two minutes. Randle put Maccabi on top, then continued to contribute with strong defense and hustle. Two more buckets by Landesberg and a layup by Pargo made it 52-47 Maccabi with two and a half minutes left in the quarter. Maccabi held the hosts to only four points until the final minute of the period, which ended with the score 58-49.
Randle was called for two quick fouls and left the game early in the fourth quarter. Cohen and Smith protected Maccabi’s lead as the teams traded three pointers; halfway through the period the score stood at 71-60 after a layup by MarQuez Haynes. A huge triple by Pargo put Maccabi’s lead at ten, 74-64 with just under three minutes left in the game. Eilat managed to close the gap, but a steal by Pnini led to a monster slam by Pargo to make things more comfortable, 77-70. The game ended in an 80-72 victory for Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv over Hapoel Eilat.
