Maccabi Tel Aviv took part in the Israeli American Council’s Celebrate Israel Festival in New York City, represented by Derrick Sharp and David Blu.
Yesterday (May 31) Maccabi Tel Aviv took part in the Israeli American Council’s Celebrate Israel Festival in New York City. The event started with the traditional parade on Fifth Avenue, and Maccabi Tel Aviv was there, represented by Derrick Sharp and David Blu, who were joined by 45,000 marchers and tens of thousands of spectators. The festivities, which were attended by about 10,000 people, continued into the evening at Pier 94 and included performances by Israeli pop star Rita and by Rinat Gabay.
Maccabi Tel Aviv’s booth at the event was crowded with visitors who participated in various shooting competitions with Sharp and Blu. “I felt like I was back in Tel Aviv, with all the support there was here,” said Blu in an interview with Becky Griffin on local Fox television station Channel 9. Sharp added, “We brought the Maccabi spirit – you must never lose. We came out to support Israel, and to show the Israelis and the Jews here that you can learn basketball from Israel, too.”
