Euroleague 2015-16: Maccabi in Group D with CSKA, Malaga, Bamberg, Darussafaka, and Sassari.

The twenty-four teams that will be participating in the Euroleague in the coming season have been divided into four groups of six teams. Maccabi is in Group D, and will play each of the other teams in that group twice during the regular season. The teams are: CSKA Moscow, Unicaja Malaga of Spain, Brose Baskets Bamberg (the current German champions), Darussafaka Dogus Istanbul (their first season in the Euroleague), and Italian champions Sassari.
Guy Goodes: “There are no easy draws in the Euroleague. We’ll need to be ready and focused for every game. We’ll have some very experienced and strong opponents like CSKA and Malaga, both of whom we played against last year during the regular season. We also have opponents with less experience, like Darussafaka and Sassari. All of them deserve respect. CSKA always puts together a super strong team, even when they make changes, and as for Malaga – it’s always tough to play in Spain.
We can’t forget that both Bamberg and Sassari are the champions in their countries. Darussafaka has a big budget and are expected to have a strong team. I’m sure there will be plenty of action. As for us, we have a good base coming back from last season of four leading players: Smith, Pnini, Yogi, and Sylven – and on top of that we’ve added solid players. We need to put all the pieces together to form a team.
Nikola Vuj?i?: “We got a good group, an interesting one with former teams of Maccabi players in it. Farmar comes to us from Darussafaka, and Mbakwe played for Bamberg. Also, Marquez Haynes is now playing for Sassari. We’ll be continuing our battles against CSKA, and Malaga is also an old rival of ours, a good one. We’ve built a new team and of course it will take some time to come together. Group D is a group which, on paper, looks like a good fit for us.”
