“We called this press conference not because we wanted to have a press conference, but because we wanted to have a dialogue with the media, which many times writes things that are not exactly accurate, and which sometimes in the heat of competition with other media outlets also makes things up,” said David Federman in his opening remarks. He went on: “We want to be very open and honest, and talk about our problems candidly. For this reason, I’ve asked that we hold this conversations from time to time, so that things will be more accurate and the public will have a better understanding about what is going on.”
The owner continued: “There’s no doubt that if we had to choose a difficult and unsuccessful year for Maccabi, the 2015-16 season holds a place of honor, possibly even first place. We’re aware that we’ve made some serious mistakes and that the team is going through a difficult period, and the fact that we’re not in the Euroleague speaks for itself. But we still have the real possibility of winning the Eurocup, the Israeli Championship, the Israeli Cup. Still, there’s no doubt that you can’t cover up your mistakes, we’re not trying to hide behind that. We made mistakes, we’ve tried to fix them and we’re still trying, and we’re looking forward.”
“We’re definitely not indifferent,” Federman continued. “We take things to heart and we don’t sleep at night. I can understand the feelings of those who don’t like us, and who are happy about the troubles we have. But you need to take everything in the proper proportion. We’re going to do our best to bring Maccabi back to where we need to be. I think all of you know what Maccabi Tel Aviv Basketball is, what we’ve achieved with this team, and the reputation this country has around the world.”
