With over a 100 official titles in the club’s history, it goes without saying that Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv has carved on its flag the value of excellence, and with an ownership that considers the yellow nation as their life’s work it comes as no surprise Maccabi’s hunger for success is constantly on the rise.

A journey that has begun with the late Coach Yehosha Rozin back in 1955 could have only implied about what’s ahead down the road as Coach Rozin led the yellows to no less of eight Israeli Cups in the first nine years of the competition. In Yehosha tenure with the yellows the legendary coach won nine Israeli cups and a total of 10 – most Israeli cups won by a coach, a record tied by yet another legendary coach, the late Ralph Klein.

Since the competition has been established Maccabi won the prestigious title 44 times (and still counting) made it to the finals for the 50th time as thursday night they will get the chance to win cup number 45. Since we’re also about the numbers here are some very interesting ones:

Longest streak for Israeli cups won: 9. the record was set by Maccabi.

Current longest streak for Israeli cups won: 8. The yellows are the current streak holders and they will get the chance to tie their previous longest streak (9) this upcoming Thursday.

12 coaches combined for 44 Israeli Cup titles won: Coach Rozin has won 9 cups with Maccabi and so did Ralph Klein, Pini Gershon won 7, Zvi Sherf and David Blatt won 6 each, Haim Shtarkman, Vinko Jelovac, Rudy D’Amico, Muli Katsurin, Zan Tabak, Ainaras Bagatskis and Guy Goodes (as head coach) had 1 each.

Guy Goodes is the only one in the club’s history to win the Israeli cup as a player, assistant coach and as the head coach.

13 is the number of Israeli Cups won by Maccabi’s legend Miki Berkovich between the years 1971-1988.

With the first edition of Maccabi 101 coming to an end, the next editions will be all about how it all started and hopefully with Cup number 45 that will also mean that Maccabi will be back on cloud number 9.
