Maccabi’s head coach Giannis Sfairopoulos after the 90:77 loss on the road: “Offensively we are not as we want to be”. Johnny O’Bryant: “We need to continue and play with the same aggressive energy just but be smart”

With their back up against the wall Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv tried to go on a new road against Anadolu Efes hoping to get a win. Coach Sfairopoulos’ squad came out with a lot of energies but ended up losing the game 90:77 dropping to a 1:7 record in the EuroLeague Johnny O’Bryant scored 19P, grabbed 6R and dished 2A for the yellows. Maccabi will now start their preparations for the upcoming game against Fenerbahce on Thursday.
“I want to congratulate Anadolu Efes for the win, especially in the second half”, said Coach Sfairopoulos. “We started the game focused defensively and we knew that Efes is a great offensive minded team scoring a lot of points here in their home court that’s why we tried from the beginning to play aggressive defense although offensively we are not as we want to be. The second period, we had some good defense and rhythm in the last two three minutes and the difference was seven points but it wasn’t something we couldn’t turn around, during the second half we fight hard and tried to stay in the game we tried to comeback, we had two or three times where we had some opens shots but we missed when the difference was five or six points we couldn’t cut down all the difference to tie the game and after that Anadolu in the last minutes scored some tough three points shots and I think that that’s what gave them the win”.
“I think overall we came out and played really aggressive”, said Johnny O’Bryant. “I just think it came down to simple mistakes again committed too many fouls put them on the free throw line, we gotta set our pick and roll defense a little better, we just got to regroup and keep fighting and stay together that’s all. We just got to be smart, we get a little too aggressive send them to the free throw line and guys are getting into foul troubles so we need to continue and play with the same aggressive energy just but be smart”.
“The key to the game was the second half “, said Michael Roll. “We gave up over 50 points. We let them have too many easy shots and a couple of offensive rebounds that turned into easy buckets and we just really got to do better. As a positive note we came out and changed our aggressiveness and tried to break through the screens”.
