Maccabi’s head coach Giannis Sfairopoulos after the thrilling home win against Olympiacos: “With this win we stayed alive with our fight for the playoffs”. DeAndre Kane: “We just want to take care of our home”
“This is a very important win for us because with this win we stayed alive with our fight for the playoffs”, said coach Giannis Sfairopoulos. “It was a tough game for both teams, it wasn’t a high quality game but it was a real derby throughout. In the end it was important that we didn’t panic when Spanoulis scored his three pointers, and in the last possession we executed the play very good and we scored, we played smart on defense and we got win. It was a close game and either team could have won the game because it’s a derby and it went until the end, sometimes you need also to be lucky”.
“Our chances are kinda in the middle of making it to the playoffs”, said DeAndre Kane. “For us every win is important, I know that the with the rivalry of David Blatt coming back here and our coach was coaching there and now he’s coaching here but for us we just want to take care of our home court and our crowd their energy was amazing it really lifted us even in bad moments where we couldn’t make shots they got us going on defense for easy points it was a great team win and I’m just happy to be a part of it, this is why we play the game, for moments like this “.
“It was a lot of fun, the crowd made it even better”, said Jake Cohen. “It was just a really fun day at work to be able to come out on top and get a win against a good Olympiacos team they beat a lot of good teams they played good tonight both of us played really good defense we just made a few more good decisions down the stretch than we had been and that made the difference”.
