Maccabi’s head coach Giannis Sfairopoulos after the home win versus Herzelia: “We played really good”. Alex Tyus: “The game started off a little slow for us but we stuck to the game plan”
Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv started their week on a high note with an impressive home win over Bnei Herzlia in the 18th round of the Israeli domestic league. With both teams struggling to score in the first five minutes of the game the squad of coach Sfairopoulos executed the game plan to perfection not allowing the visitors to even think of a comeback enroute of an 88:70 home win and a 14:4 record in the standings. The yellows will now prepare for their next EuroLeague game against Milan on the road.
“Before I’ll start analyzing the game I would like to say that today is big for Maccabi” said coach Sfairopoulos as he addressed the Maccabi academy players’ performance. “We saw two youngsters of the academy doing a really good job first of all here in Tel Aviv Dori Sahar with his participation and first points in the league and I’m happy for it, and also I want to congratulate Deni Avdija who won the MVP in the games he played in the states and it shows how Maccabi is working with the youngsters and the academies and how we want to play with the players that come from our academy”.
“We started the game very good defensively”, Giannis concluded. “I believe that from our good defense we got from the beginning the double digits advantage, and in the second period after we got the double digit lead we relaxed a little defensively we allowed easy points and they scored 26 points, but I think after the first half we played really good”.
“It was a great game”, said Alex Tyus who also complimented Dori Sahar for scoring his first points in yellow and blue. “Dori scored a nice three point shot. We played pretty well especially defensively, the game started off a little slow for us but we stuck to the game plan got some easy baskets in the second half and that’s how we got the lead to open up and got the win”.
