“Our bigs will have to help the guards against Barcelona”
Coach Bagatskis addressed the injured players and lack of point guards depth ahead of the game tonight (22:00) at Barcelona. “We always want to win”.

Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv will face Barcelona tonight in the 29th round of the Euroleague season. Maccabi will play in Spain without the injured Andrew Goudelock, DJ Seeley and Yogev Ohayon – all guards leaving Gal Mekel as the only true point guard in the rotation. This means that Gal Mekel is the only true point guard in the rotation.
Head coach Ainars Bagatskis, who celebrated his 50th birthday on Wednesday, said before the team boarded the plane to Barcelona: “We need to finish the Euroleague season in the best possible way. We’re very injured and will prepare our strategy based on who is able to play. We need to save energy for our guards as we currently have only
Mekel and Sylvan Landesberg and with no other alternatives, Victor Rudd will also serve as a guard. The bigs will have to help them, especially on defense.”Gal Mekel: “We always want to win and don’t care that the game in Barcelona can’t get us into the playoffs. We have a very short roster, but we will not use that as an excuse and are
coing to play strong and win. We had a good momentum following the wins in the derby and against Fenerbahce but it was somewhat stopped after the losses to Zalgiris and Holon so we want to get back to winning ways to finish the Euroleague season and ahead of the last stretch in the Israeli league”
