On Friday: Maccabi faces struggling Panathinaikos
After the home victory over Partizan, the Yellows will meet the Greeks who have lost six straight in the Euroleague. Kattash: "Their results lie. It's never easy at the OAKA"
Maccabi arrives after a convincing home win against Partizan Belgrade, with a 10:8 record and a temporary place inside the top 8. The Greek hosts however are not in a good shape lately. They have lost six straight including a tough beat down in the Derby against Olympiacos.
“It is true that Panathinakos’s latest results weren’t positive, but they played well and deserved to get more from the games they lost”, said Oded Kattash ahead of the game against the team he played for and coached in the past.
“It is never easy playing at OAKA, no matter the situation Panathinaikos is in, so going there thinking that their results give us any advantage would be a big mistake. We will need to stay super focused and aggressive to get this win”
“Panathinaikos plays good basketball,” said Wade Baldwin. “Despite their losing streak, this is a tough team with a good squad and it is never easy to play in their home court. We need to come prepared”.
Late comeback isn't enough to carry Maccabi past Panathinaikos

A true Friday thriller in Athens found Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv rallying back from a 9-point deficit in the last two minutes but ending up with a bitter loss, 86:88 to Panathinaikos. A stand-out performance from Bonzie Colson, who scored 29 points (14 rebounds) wasn’t enough to get the Yellows over the hump and left them with a 10:9 record in the Euroleague.
After the convincing win over Partizan Belgrade earlier in the week, Oded Kattash’s players fell behind pretty early and chased the Greeks almost throughout the whole evening. Colson was assisted by Wade Baldwin (21 points) in pushing Maccabi back to a tight ending, but the Yellows’ ex, Derrick Williams, gave Panathinaikos the lead seconds before the last buzzer with a stunning three-pointer.
Baldwin tried to force overtime but missed a jumper that determined the final result. Maccabi’s next opponent in the Euroleague will be Alba Berlin on Thursday.
