The Israel national team will play for places 5-8 in the European Championship in Stockholm. This after losing in the quarter finals 64-78 to Spain. Tomorrow (Friday, 22:00) Israel will play Greece who lost tonight 59-62 to Italy.
The Israeli players were in the game until the final quarter despite losing captain Yoav Saffar with a back injury at the beginning of the third quarter. In the final period, NBA star Pau Gasol, exploited the absence of Yani Green (fouled out) to open a gap almost on his own. He scored 25 pts & pulled down 5 rbds.
Derrick Sharp was Israel’s best player with 16 pts (4-8 for three) and good defense. Tal Burstein had a poor shooting game with 4 pts (2-9 FG). Saffar scored 4, Shelef 2 & Halperin played but did not score.
