Maccabi Rapyd Tel Aviv is proud to unveil the new blue jersey, inspired by the city’s beaches and the Tel Aviv promenade
The blend of the sea’s deep blues with the warm yellowish tones of the sand creates a fresh, modern echo of Maccabi’s classic colors, while the iconic round patterns from the old promenade pavement are subtly embossed in the background.
To mark the launch of the new kit, we took several of our players for a photoshoot right where it all comes together — the Tel Aviv promenade and the Mediterranean shore.
The Coastline
The city of Tel Aviv is known for its beaches, that coupled with the warm weather of the area, creates a perfect location for vacation-goers, young lovers, adventure-seekers, joggers or families on a weekend break alike. The waters are welcoming, restaurants are scattered along the coasts and the waves are perfect for surfers.
What makes the city’s beaches even more appealing is its diversity. Here you will find a beach dedicated for the gay community, a dog beach and a secluded religious section – all in a short walk.
The coastline is over 14 kilometers long, stretching from the Herzliya border in the north until Jaffa in the south. Around 8,500,000 people attend the Tel Aviv beaches every year. In 2010, National Geographic listed Tel Aviv as one of the 10 best beach cities in the world.
The Promenade
There are numerous promenades (In Hebrew: Tayelet) along Tel Aviv coastline, but none are more famous than the Lahat Promenade. It is named after former mayor Shlomo “Chich” Lahat who oversaw a massive reconstruction of the promenade in the early 1980s. The new promenade was an immediate success, turning the seaside area into a bustling part of the city.
An iconic part of that reconstruction was the pavement, with its round waves that stretched for kilometers – an unmistakable feature of the promenade. For decades, you could not think about Tel Avivian beaches without having that pavement pop to mind.
In the previous decade, the city again reconstructed the promenade to welcome it into a new era. In the process, the iconic pavement made way to a new design. But we want to pay homage to another era and bring it back to life.
