The management of Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv is delighted to announce that long-time player and beloved team captain Derrick Sharp will join Guy Goodes in serving as assistant coach to head coach David Blatt.
Maccabi is certain that in his new role with the team that he has served faithfully and so well for the last fifteen years, Derrick Sharp’s superb talent and wealth of experience will enable him to guide and lead the players and instill in them and in the system as a whole the values of excellence and success that have epitomized his contributions to Maccabi as both player and team captain and which have made him the heart and soul of Maccabi.
Derrick Sharp is a well-respected and incredibly important part of the Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv basketball club. As the second part of his career begins – the career of a coach – there will likely be a number of ceremonies honoring his career as a player.
For the last fifteen years, Sharp has played an enormous role in the tremendous success the team has experienced: three European championships, 13 Israeli championships and 11 Israel Cups – a total of no less than 27 titles! He had a hand in innumerable heroic plays while wearing the yellow and blue, first and foremost, of course, being the Zalgiris Miracle of 2004.
The management of Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv wishes to thank Derrick Sharp from the bottom of their hearts for the fifteen fabulous years he has given them as a player, and they are sure he will continue to contribute to the success of the team in his new and exciting role.
