A true Friday thriller in Athens found Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv rallying back from a 9-point deficit in the last two minutes but ending up with a bitter loss, 86:88 to Panathinaikos. A stand-out performance from Bonzie Colson, who scored 29 points (14 rebounds) wasn’t enough to get the Yellows over the hump and left them with a 10:9 record in the Euroleague.
After the convincing win over Partizan Belgrade earlier in the week, Oded Kattash’s players fell behind pretty early and chased the Greeks almost throughout the whole evening. Colson was assisted by Wade Baldwin (21 points) in pushing Maccabi back to a tight ending, but the Yellows’ ex, Derrick Williams, gave Panathinaikos the lead seconds before the last buzzer with a stunning three-pointer.
Baldwin tried to force overtime but missed a jumper that determined the final result. Maccabi’s next opponent in the Euroleague will be Alba Berlin on Thursday.
