Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv tied the club’s record with 16 three pointers in a single game, as they cruised to a gratifying 85-65 home win over Brose Baskets Bamberg. Sylven Landesberg was outstanding with 19 points (5/7 from three point range). Taylor Rochestie contributed 16 points and 7 assists, Devin Smith added 12 points and 5 assists, and Trevor Mbakwe (9 rebounds) and Guy Pnini scored 11 points each.
Starters for Maccabi were Brian Randle, Devin Smith, Taylor Rochestie, Sylven Landesberg, and Arinze Onuaku. A floater by Rochestie and two buckets in the paint by Onuaku put Maccabi up 6-2 after three minutes, but it was Landes with three straight triples that fired up both the team and the crowd, giving Maccabi a 15-4 lead with four minutes left in the first quarter. Trevor Mbakwe added a dunk and Dragan Bender scored from downtown, while Bamberg continued to struggle finding the basket. A slick no-look dish from Yogev Ohayon to Rochestie closed out the period with Maccabi up 23-10.
Guy Pnini kicked off the second quarter from downtown and Mbakwe scored twice to make it 30-12 after three and a half minutes. Bamberg responded with a 7-0 run that led Zan Tabak to call for a time out at the halfway mark. Four points by Rochestie gave Maccabi some breathing room, while back to back triples plus a deuce by Smith sent the teams into the halftime break with Maccabi holding a 42-28 lead.
The third quarter was three pointer time, with Maccabi draining no fewer than 7 buckets from outside the arc. Smith got things started, and Randle added a trey soon after, making it 49-30. Maccabi’s defense continued to keep a choke hold on Bamberg, while Landesberg and Pnini joined in the triple-fest, combining to give Maccabi a 19 point lead with :05 on the clock. Ohayon’s three pointer at the buzzer made it 70-50 heading into the final period.
It took awhile for Maccabi to regain their momentum in the fourth quarter, but Mbakwe and Smith combined to keep Maccabi’s lead over twenty halfway through the period, 78-57. Rochestie scored from downtown to tie the club’s record of 16 three pointers in a single game, and basically closed Bamberg down for good. In the end, Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv defeated Brose Baskets Bamberg 85-65.
