A convincing 11:0 run in the first quarter might have fueled Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv’s expectations for an away win in Greece, but a counter 27:11 run by Olympiacos left the Yellows in the position of the chaser – a challenge that proved to be too difficult. After 40 minutes, the scoreboard showed a 95:89 to the Greeks. Oded Kattash’s team will try to bounce back next week.
If there was one bright spot this evening, it must be the performance of Roman Sorkin. Despite playing just 20 minutes, the Israeli center scored 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds. He was also a significant factor in Maccabi’s attempts for a comeback in the second half, alongside his teammates, which also fought together as a unit.
Next week isn’t going to be easier. Maccabi will return to Euroleague action on Tuesday with an away game against Barcelona and will play again on the road after two days versus Valencia.
