Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv was defeated at home by Hapoel Jerusalem, 93-77. Smith led Maccabi’s scorers with 31 points, Randle contributed 10 points.
Maccabi’s starters were Joe Alexander, Alex Tyus, Devin Smith, Jeremy Pargo, and Yogev Ohayon. The visitors got off to a good start, going to 6-0 in the first two and a half minutes and causing Maccabi’s head coach Guy Goodes to call a time out. Two straight buckets by Tyus and a triple by Smith made it 12-7. Jerusalem played aggressively and held on to the lead, but MarQuez Haynes, Ohayon, Smith, and Randle all scored to end the first quarter with Maccabi trailing by only two, 21-19.
A one handed slam by Brian Randle and two straight threes by Smith didn’t help Maccabi much as Jerusalem ran to 36-27 halfway through the second quarter. The visitors soon extended their lead to double digits, and with two and a half minutes left in the half the score was 45-31. By the time the period ended the visitors’ lead had grown to 55-35.
Maccabi looked sharper at the start of the third quarter, but Jerusalem quickly countered, running to 65-44 after four minutes. The home team didn’t give up, and points by Randle and Haynes chipped away at the deficit a little, 69-52 with less than three minutes left in the period. Tyus and Joe Alexander scored for Maccabi, but the quarter ended with Hapoel holding a comfortable 74-58 lead.
The fourth quarter was more of the same, with Jerusalem staying well ahead of the hosts, 78-63 after three minutes. A bucket and one by Jake Cohen didn’t help Maccabi much, nor did five straight by Smith that made it 85-71 with three minutes left in the game. In the end, Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv was defeated by Hapoel Jerusalem 93-77.
