Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv easily defeated Ironi Nes Ziona 84-54 in the Winner Sal League Cup quarterfinals held in the new arena in Holon. Jordan Farmar led Maccabi’s scorers with 23 points, Dragan Bender added 11 points, and Yogev Ohayon scored 10 points.
Starters for Maccabi were Devin Smith, Brian Randle, Taylor Rochestie, Jordan Farmar, and Trevor Mbakwe. Three triples by Farmar put Maccabi up 10-5 in the first four minutes of the game. Nes Ziona were able to close the gap slightly, but Mbakwe from the foul line, Farmar with another five straight points, Guy Pnini with a smooth layup, Dragan Bender with points from downtown, and Yogev Ohayon with a buzzer-beating three made it 27-10 Maccabi at the end of the first period.
Vitor Faverani, Ohayon, and Farmar (with his fifth three pointer) combined to extend Maccabi’s lead to 34-10 in the first minute of the second quarter. After a time out by Nes Ziona, Maccabi eased up and the oranges closed to 36-17 at the halfway mark in the period. Farmar stepped up again, reaching 20 points and making it 41-23 going into halftime.
Randle opened the second half with a huge block, while Mbakwe and Rochestie scored in the paint. A no-look pass from Randle to Smith in the right corner made it 48-23 two and a half minutes into the quarter. Farmar added more points from downtown, capping off a 10-0 run and making it 51-23 after three minutes. Nes Ziona showed signs of getting back into the game, but a trey by Ohayon on the right side and a soaring one handed slam by Randle put Maccabi’s lead at 60-31 with less than three minutes left in the period. Nes Ziona managed a 9-2 run, ending the third quarter with the score 62-40.
The final quarter was a mere formality, as Faverani, Itay Segev, and Rochestie kept Maccabi’s lead comfortable, 74-46 after five minutes. Bender continued to show off his flair for the long shots, draining two straight triples, and young Segev topped off the game with a strong dunk. In the end, Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv defeated Ironi Nes Ziona 84-54 and advances to the semi-finals in the Israeli Winner Sal League Cup competition.
