Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv swept Ironi Nes Ziona 3-0 in the best of five quarterfinal series, after a 90-73 victory at Menora Mivtachim Arena. Brian Randle was named game MVP with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Jeremy Pargo and Alex Tyus (11 rebounds) added 16 points each. Jake Cohen scored 13 points, and Yogev Ohayon contributed 7 points and 10 assists.
Coach Guy Goodes started the game with Devin Smith, Alex Tyus, Jeremy Pargo, Brian Randle, and Yogev Ohayon. The early minutes of the game were close; six straight by Tyus made it 9-9 after four minutes. A Smith to Randle alley oop put Maccabi on top 13-12 just past the halfway mark, setting off an 8-0 run that lasted for two and a half minutes. Nes Ziona got back in the game, pulling within four until a three pointer by Jake Cohen and a layup by Smith ended the quarter with Maccabi holding a 26-21 lead.
The second period got underway with a triple by Nate Linhart in the right corner and points by Cohen, but again the visitors fought their way back, taking a 32-31 lead after three minutes. Back to back threes by Pargo and Ohayon put the lead back in Maccabi’s hands, but the score stayed close despite buckets by Smith, Pargo, and Randle, and the teams went into halftime with Maccabi up by one, 45-44.
The second half also started off close, with Randle and Cohen scoring and Nes Ziona responding. Smith from downtown, a putback by Tyus, and Pargo from outside the arc made it 57-50 with three minutes left in the period. Randle added a huge block on a fast break by Nes Ziona, and Cohen with five straight made it 62-56. A steal and three pointer by Linhart ended the quarter with Maccabi up 65-56.
The fourth quarter got underway with a one handed slam by Linhart and a triple by Ohayon that gave Maccabi their first double digit lead in the game, 70-59 after two minutes. Randle, Smith, and Tyus continued to score for Maccabi, increasing Maccabi’s lead to 78-61 in the middle of the period. Pargo connected with Tyus for the dunk, and young player Orr Leumi scored from downtown to make it 83-69 with two minutes left in the game. Pargo added three straight layups, and MarQuez Haynes scored from the foul line to put the finishing touches on Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv’s 90-73 victory over Nes Ziona and securing their spot in the Israeli Winner Sal League semifinals.
