Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv lost at home to Darussafaka Dogus Istanbul 84-73 in the fifth round of the Euroleague season. Taylor Rochestie led Maccabi’s scorers with 17 points, Devin Smith contributed 14 points, and Jordan Farmar and Brian Randle added 10 points each.
Maccabi’s starters were Devin Smith, Brian Randle, Yogev Ohayon, Taylor Rochestie, and Arinze Onuaku. The start of the game was balanced, with the score 6-6 after three minutes. Erden made things tough for Maccabi in the paint on both sides of the court, giving the Turkish team a 13-8 lead. Four straight points by Smith and a triple by Rochestie put the yellows on top 17-15, but Wilbekin scored for Darussafaka at the buzzer to tie the score, 20-20.
The second quarter got underway with points in the paint by Vitor Faverani and Farmar’s second trey of the game, making it 25-24 Maccabi after two minutes. The Turks stayed close thanks to points by Harangody. Sylven Landesberg tied the score from the foul line, 28-28 halfway through the period. After a drought on both sides of the court, Randle put Maccabi up by five with a bucket and one and a dunk on a fast break. Onuaku scored for Maccabi but Harangody responded from downtown, and the teams went into halftime with Maccabi holding a 39-37 lead.
Darussafaka opened the second half strong, taking a 44-43 lead in in the first three minutes. Faverani and Randle in the paint put the lead back in Maccabi’s hands five minutes into the period. A string of points by Markoishvili gave the visitors a 54-47 lead. Ohayon responded with six straight points, but the rest of the quarter belonged to the Turks, who finished the quarter with a 60-53 lead.
Markoishvili was unstoppable as the fourth quarter began, scoring two three pointers to extend the Turks’ lead into double digits, 68-53. Rochestie and Smith stopped the visitors’ run and cut the deficit to 68-60 halfway through the period. Maccabi tried to get back in the game, but Darussafaka kept their lead comfortable. In the end, Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv lost to Darussafaka Dogus Istanbul 84-73.
