Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv was defeated by Real Madrid 86-75 in the Spanish capital in week 12 of the Euroleague Top 16, dropping their record to 7-5. Brian Randle led Maccabi with 17 points and 7 rebounds. Jeremy Pargo contributed 14 points and 7 assists, while Devin Smith and Joe Alexander scored 12 points each.
Jeremy Pargo, Devin Smith, Brian Randle, Nate Linhart, and Sofo Schortsanitis were the starters for Maccabi. The Spaniards looked sharp as the game got underway, running to 11-4 in the first three minutes. MarQuez Haynes sank a long three from the top of the arc halfway through the period to put Maccabi within eight, 15-7. Madrid continued to dominate at both ends of the court, and despite points from Alex Tyus and Smith, the period ended with the hosts leading 27-13.
Maccabi looked better in the second quarter, with points by Smith and Pargo bringing the yellows to within seven, 29-22 after two minutes. The trend continued with a bucket and one from Sofo, a dunk by Joe Alexander on the fast break, and a dunk by Smith on the inbounds making it a two point game, 31-29 at the five minute mark. The Spaniards responded by extending their lead to six, and despite points by Pargo, Randle (layup and one, and a putback), and Alexander, the half ended with Real Madrid holding a 46-40 lead.
The hosts hung onto their lead as the second half began, increasing it to 57-44 after three minutes. Randle and Tyus scored for Maccabi, but Madrid maintained their double digit lead through the end of the period, 66-54.
Linhart and Randle scored in the paint to make it a ten point game, 68-58 after a minute and a half. Maccabi fought to stay in the game, keeping the Spaniards from enlarging their lead but remaining stuck with a deficit in double figures for the entire quarter. In the end, Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv was defeated by Real Madrid 86-75.
