It wasn’t quite the comfortable victory Oded Kattash was hoping for in the lead-up to a week that includes two Euroleague games in two days. But a win is a win. Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv battled past Hapoel Haifa today (Sunday) with a 108:104 triumph but it wasn’t without some nerve-wracking moments that preceded the celebrations.

Less than 48 hours after the loss in Madrid, the Yellows looked sloppy in the first half at Menora Mivtachim against the Reds and trailed by 14 points at halftime. Luckily for the hosts, stand-out performances by Jalen Adams (26 points) and Bonzie Colson (25) kept them in business and led to a run that forced overtime (88:88).

Five added minutes weren’t enough to separate the two teams. A missed follow-up jumper by Roman Sorkin 0.4 seconds before the final buzzer sent Maccabi and Haifa to a second overtime in which weariness played a significant part. The Reds blinked first and the Yellows could release a sigh of relief thanks to the 108:104 final result.

Next up for Maccabi will be Partizan Belgrade on Wednesday and Panathinaikos on Friday.
