Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv defeated Cedevita Zagreb on the road, 82-71. Five players scored in double figures, with Devin Smith leading the group with 14 points and 6 rebounds. Alex Tyus contributed 13 points and 9 rebounds, Yogev Ohayon had 13 points and 6 assists, and Sylven Landesberg scored 12 points. It was an excellent night for Nate Linhart, who added 11 points and 6 rebounds.

Devin Smith, Brian Randle, Jeremy Pargo, Yogev Ohayon, and Sofo Schortsanitis were the starters for Maccabi. In the first three minutes the hosts ran to 11-2, but a series of three pointers by Ohayon, Sylven Landesberg and Jake Cohen cut the deficit to 15-14 by the end of the period.

Nate Linhart sank a three to put Maccabi on top at the start of the second quarter. Landesberg and Alex Tyus made some great plays that increased Maccabi’s lead to 28-19 and caused the Croatians to call for a time out. The hosts came back strong and cut the point difference to only four. Great defense by Randle and points by Landesberg made it 43-34 going into the halftime break.

The third quarter got off to a very slow start, with both teams having trouble finding the basket. Halfway through the period, Maccabi led 47-39. Sofo and Ohayon finally succeeded in extending Maccabi’s lead, but the hosts woke up and, taking advantage of a lack of concentration on Maccabi’s part, succeeded in tying the score. A free throw by Landesberg ended the period with Maccabi up by one, 54-53.

Points from downtown by Smith and five straight points by Tyus opened up Maccabi’s lead, 61-54 two and a half minutes into the fourth quarter. Pargo added points and an assist to Tyus, 68-59 to the visitors from Tel Aviv. Maccabi remained hot for the rest of the period, and came away with an 82-71 victory over Cedevita Zagreb.
