Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv dominated Maccabi Ashdod 91-72 at Menorah Mivtachim Arena in week 25 of the Israeli Winner Sal League. Gal Mekel led all scorers with 26 points and 5 assists, Sylven Landesberg added 13 points, and Brian Randle, Dragan Bender, and Ike Ofoegbu scored 8 points each.
Maccabi’s starters were Guy Pnini, Richard Hendrix, Sylven Landesberg, Yogev Ohayon, and Brian Randle. Ashdod started the game with a 10-2 run that led Coach Tabak to call for a time out. Ohayon and Randle combined to make it 12-8 halfway through the period. Gal Mekel came into the game and, together with Hendrix, put Maccabi up 14-13 with less than a minute left in the period. Ashdod responded and the quarter ended with Maccabi trailing 17-14.
Itay Segev and Dragan Bender played well at the start of the second quarter, giving Maccabi a 21-17 lead after a minute and a half. Ashdod tied the score, but Mekel and Dagan Yivzori put the yellows back on top. The visitors responded with a pair of threes which gave them a 33-29 lead after five minutes. Pnini and Mekel combined to give Maccabi a 39-37 lead going into the break.
Mekel, Landesberg, and Randle combined to put Maccabi up 48-42 two and a half minutes into the third quarter. Points from downtown by Mekel, Bender, and Pnini gave Maccabi a 57-46 lead with four minutes left in the period. Points from the foul line, a tip in by Hendrix, and points by Landesberg ended the quarter with the yellows up 63-52.
The fourth quarter began with a string of buckets by Ike Ofoegbu, who took the home team to 75-55 halfway through the period. Segev displayed his skills above the rim with a string of slams, and Mekel reached 26 points as Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv dominated Maccabi Ashdod 91-72.
