On Friday: Maccabi faces Baskonia away
The yellows want to keep the momentum going and get their sixth win in a row. Wilbekin: "The attacking balance we have will make us one of the best teams in the EuroLeague"
“We are starting a series of away games, and the first one is against an opponent that wants to get back to winning,” said Giannis Sfairopoulos in a press conference before leaving to Spain. “We will have to be very focused on defense for 40 minutes while also maintaining our attacking flow”.
Fifty fans will join Maccabi and give the yellows support from the stands in Vitoria. “It’s always important to have our fans with us, no matter where we play. They give us strength and confidence”.
Kameron Taylor also spoke about the match-up with the Spanish opponent. “It’s going to be a real battle,” he said. “We will be focused like we were against Barcelona because we know we need this away win.”
Scottie Wilbekin shared his thoughts about this version of Maccabi. “The game against Barcelona gave a small glimpse into what we are capable of in terms of points distribution,” the guard explained. “If we maintain a balanced attack, we will be one of the best teams in Europe.”
Williams scores 21 points, Maccabi gets 5th Euroleague win in a row
The yellows improved their record to 6:2 with an 87:69 away victory over Baskonia Vitoria. Wilbekin sat out the second half because of a leg injury. On Monday: another away game, against Holon
Scottie Wilbekin picked up a leg injury and missed the second half, but even without him, Maccabi looked solid. The attack was balanced again, and the front line showed dominance in the paint. Fifty fans who traveled with Maccabi to Spain saw Derrick Williams leading the scorers’ list with 21 points.
Jalen Reynolds and Ante Zizic added 16 points each, while Keenan Evans proved again that he is a legitimate Euroleague player with 14 points, eight assists, and five rebounds.
Giannis Sfairopoulos’ players will now rest until Monday and then face Hapoel Holon in Winner league’s matchday 5. On Thursday, Maccabi will play against CSKA Moscow in what promises to be a huge battle between two playoff candidates.
