The Euroleague invited some of its brightest stars to take part in a special pre-launch party for the latest version of the hugely popular video game NBA2K14, which will – for the first time – include 14 Euroleague teams including none other than Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv. The players got a chance to try out the new game and to check out the way their characters perform. Maccabi was represented by center Shawn James, who last season was named to the All-Euroleague Second Team. He was joined by such luminaries as Juan Carlos Navarro, Dimitris Diamantidis, Felipe Reyes, Vassilis Spanoulis, and Viktor Khryapa. Two other players, Tibor Pleiss and Semih Erden, also took the game for a test drive.
James: “It’s an exciting and addictive game. My character plays great basketball, including a couple of plays that I can’t really execute. It’s a lot of fun.” When asked which team he would play with: Knicks, Lakers or Cavaliers, James immediately replied: “I’m only playing with Maccabi, I would never pick any other team. I’m going to try and beat LeBron with my teammates.” James executed an impressive defeat of Pleiss (the German center for Laboral Kutxa Vitoria, who Maccabi will face in the first round of the Euroleague regular season) on the Playstation, 50-33.
The game will be officially released in Europe on 4 October 2013.
