Sarunas Jasikevicius, just crowned MVP of the European Championship, landed this evening at Ben Gurion airport and was driven immediatly to the pre season press conference at the Hilton Hotel in Tel Aviv. There he was welcomed by some Maccabi fans who presented him with a bouquet and a yellow tee-shirt. Inside he was swamped by members of the media with their cameras & microphones.
Jasikevicius said he knows that he joins a great club and that his aim is to help Maccabi win as many games as possible. “There are some excellent players here and I have also heard about the Maccabi fans. I believe we are going to have a great season”.
The other new Maccabi Elite TA players were also presented at the press conference: Anthony Parker, Maceo Baston, Anton Kazarnovsky & Avi Ben Chimol. Head coach Pini Gershon said that top have success and reach the Euroleague Final Four, good players are not enough: “Only a team can bring success as Lithuania has just proved in the Euro Championship”.
On Saturday night Maccabi will have its first practice session with its full squad and on Sunday will travel to Bormio in the Italian Alps for pre season training and will also play four games.
