Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv’s newest player, Jon Scheyer, arrived in Israel today and was welcomed by dozens of fans at Ben Gurion Airport. “I’m looking forward to making the next step.”

“It feels great. It’s quite a welcome to come to such passionate crowds like this at the airport,” said Jon Scheyer upon his arrival in Israel. “I’m looking forward to making the next step. It’s my first team I’ll be playing with full time since being at Duke and winning there. So I’m really excited for this next step and just can’t wait to get started.”
“I really just want to help the team however I can,” Scheyer continued. “Obviously, they had a great year last year, and they have such a great tradition, you just want to uphold that. So for me, I just want to come in and not hold anything back, be the best I can, and whatever Coach wants me to do, I’ll do.” When asked what he knows about his teammates, Scheyer replied, “I know about all of them but I haven’t met many of them…Jeremy Pargo and I are from the same area, in Chicago, so we know each other well, but besides that I’m looking forward to getting to know the rest and having great relationships with them. Jeremy has been such a great player for the last few years, so I just want to come in and be a great complement to him and all the other guys and figure out what my role is. So I’ll look to Coach just to kind of tell me what to do a little bit more on that, and we’ll see.” When asked if the injury he suffered to his eye last year still bothers him, Scheyer said, “No, I feel great. The injury isn’t a problem. I know with three leagues it’s a lot of games, could be up to 90 games, and that’s exciting for me. I’ll play in as many games [as I can] and I’m looking forward to doing that.”
On Sunday, 3 July, Scheyer will undergo a fitness examination in the morning. In the afternoon, the club will host a celebratory press conference for Scheyer at Nokia Arena. On Monday Scheyer will wrap up his visit in Israel and fly home to America that night.
