Maccabi Elite Tel Aviv has added another power forward to its roster with the signing of Marcus Fizer for the next two seasons.
Fizer (2.03, 29) arrives from Polaris World Murcia, whom he helped survive a season in the Spanish League for the first time in 10 years. Fizer averaged 18.9 points and 6.8 rebounds for Murcia while shooting 54% from two-point range. He would have topped the Spanish League scoring leaders if he had played one more game last season.
Fizer had begun his career playing three seasons at Iowa State, where he finished with averages of 18.9 points and 7.4 rebounds and in his junior year was an All-American.
Fizer was chosen fourth overall in the 2000 NBA draft by Chicago, where he played four seasons, averaging 12.3 points and 5.6 rebounds in the best of those. In his best NBA game during the 2004 season, he scored 30 points and grabbed 20 rebounds (against Orlando).
He spent the 2004-05 season with the Milwaukee Bucks and the following season was MVP of the NBDL, playing for coach Dennis Johnson in Austin Toros. He finished the NBDL with averages of 22.7 points, 7.8 rebounds and 3.3 assists. His top performance was a 44-points game.
