Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv will wrap up the first round of the season in the top spot of Group D in the Euroleague, following their victory last Thursday and the loss suffered by Lokomotiv Kuban on Friday. They will be joining Real Madrid in Group F in the Top 16 round.

They’ve done it! Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv will wrap up the first round of the Euroleague season this week in the number one spot in Group D, and will join Spanish powerhouse Real Madrid in Group F of the Top 16 round, which will get underway on 2 January 2014. Maccabi nailed the top spot in week 9, after they defeated Rytas Vilnius and the other contender for the position, Lokomotiv Kuban, was defeated by Panathinaikos. The final contributing factor was Red Star Belgrade’s win over Laboral Kutxa Vitoria.
Another team that has joined the group is Turkish team Galatasaray, whose roster includes the Maccabi crowd favorite of 2008-2009, Puerto Rican Carlos Arroyo. Another ex-Maccabi player, Milan Ma?van, is also a member of the Turkish squad, and British player Pops Mensa-Bonsu, who came very close to signing with Maccabi, plays for Galatasaray as well.
