Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv’s last puzzle piece is now in place. Point guard Demond Mallet arrived in Israel today (Thursday) with the goal of filling the space left by the departure of Jordan Farmar, who returned to the U.S. when the NBA lockout ended. The media was waiting for Mallet at the airport, and he talked to them about his feelings regarding joining Maccabi and his expectations for the remainder of the season.

“Maccabi’s a great team, it’s a historical team. They made the Top 16 and that just shows the type of team that they are. I think that I can be a key addition to making them go to the next round. Of course the expectations are going to be high, because of the success they’ve had in previous years, and I accept the challenge. It’s a challenge for me, but I do feel that I can definitely help Maccabi, and I’m just happy to be here.”

“The crowd here is unbelievable”, Mallet went on. “The gym, the fans, are just second to none. They’re the best that I’ve experienced in Europe, and just being a part of it is great. To play on their side is a good thing, so I’m looking forward to it. This is a great place that any player would want to be: the club, the city, the fans; it’s an ideal situation for any professional player.”

“For me, I’m just concentrating on this season, and this season – after we win – we can talk about next season.”
