Former Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv head coach Pini Gershon has returned to the club, this time as assistant coach to head coach Guy Goodes. Gerson, who led Maccabi to three Euroleague championships during his years as head coach, said, “I’ll do the maximum to help Guy succeed.”

Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv has filled out its coaching staff with the addition of former head coach Pini Gershon, who said “I have been with this club since 1965, when I coached the little league (“kat sal”), and it could be that I will finish as the little league coach. That doesn’t mean I won’t do most of the work with the professional team; I will do the maximum to help Guy succeed. I have helped more than a few coaches succeed in my career, and I’m coming to help Guy as his assistant coach. I won’t be coaching Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv; I’ve done that, I’ve done enough and I’m done with that.”
“I’ve come to do what you’ve said for years I can’t do. I’ll adjust very quickly to the system. His first strength as a coach was to make this brave decision. He made a decision like a man when he chose me as his assistant. I can give him a few tips and help him win a few games. The difficulty for me will be to wake up at 6:00 every morning for video.”
Head coach of Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv, Guy Goodes, said, “Pini is joining our professional staff, and personally I am very, very happy. I believe that together we will lead Maccabi to the achievements it needs to reach, like last season. Maccabi has always had strong and dominant staffs to lead it.”
“If I feel intimidated by Pini, it won’t work. It took me a while to adjust to the idea. Nine out ten people will say I’m crazy, but a lot of people have told me it was a brave decision. My belief and confidence in myself is what drove me. He will give me tips the way I gave tips to David Blatt. With the best assistant coach in Europe beside me, I should be delighted.”
