The Maccabi Tel Aviv Basketball Club held an exciting and celebratory opening ceremony for the Season of Glory, which marks the 80th anniversary of the club’s founding.

2012 is the year of glory. On the brink of celebrating the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Maccabi Tel Aviv Basketball Club, the club held a thrilling opening ceremony for its new Hall of Fame, called the Hall of the Maccabim. The ceremony, which was hosted by Maccabi’s famed former announcer Rafi Ginat, celebrated the induction of some of the legendary team captains in the club’s history: Tal Brody, Doron Jamchy, Nadav Henefeld, Mickey Berkowitz, and Gur Shelef.

Wait a second…isn’t someone missing? Of course! We can’t leave out Derrick Sharp, who retired after the last season (his fifteenth with the club) and has become an assistant coach for Maccabi. Not only was there a special highlight film of Derrick’s days on the court, but he got a special surprise in the person of his good friend and former teammate, the fabled star Nikola Vujčić, who flew in from Croatia especially to honor Derrick.
Before each home Euroleague game this season, Maccabi will honor the club’s greatest players, coaches, and staff – the people who, throughout its history, have transformed the club into an empire. Every inductee into the Hall of Fame will receive a special plaque and a gold ring adorned with a diamond and engraved with the player’s name and jersey number.
