Education Minister Gideon Sa’ar announced today that club president, attorney Shimon Mizrahi, has won the prestigious Israel Prize in the field of sports.

Education Minister Gideon Sa’ar announced today (Wednesday) that club president, attorney Shimon Mizrahi, has won the prestigious Israel Prize in the field of sports for 2011, and congratulated him on this honor.
The committee stated in their announcement of the prize that Shimon Mizrahi has created new styles of management in the field of sport.
His on-going activity, which he has done on a volunteer basis for many years, has strengthened public awareness in the field of basketball through his meticulousness in maintaining a high level and quality of management in Israeli sports, and has attained prestigious achievements on both a national and international level.
The public activities of Mr. Mizrahi in national and international forums have raised the image of Israeli sports in general and basketball in particular.
The chairman of the prize committee in the field of sport was Mr. Tal Brody.
Also on the committee were Ms. Esther Roth-Sachmorov and Mr. Gili Lustig.
Shimon Mizrahi had this reaction to the news: “I’m very happy and excited.
It’s an award for achievements made over the last 42 years.
I want to thank all of the members of the management and the team since 1969.
In effect, this is a prize for the entire Maccabi Tel Aviv club.
I never did the things I’ve done in order to win a prize, but it’s gratifying to be appreciated.
It gives me the strength to keep on with this work for many years to come.”
