Greek center Sofoklis Schortsanitis arrived in Israel wearing his customary grin and was welcomed in typical Maccabi fashion, despite the early hour. “I’m very happy and excited about the season ahead. I hope we have a great season. I can’t wait to start practice, and I hope to have many more good years here like the two years I spent here before. I decided not to take part in the Greek National Team this year because I have a small injury and it’s important to me to prepare properly for the season and get off to a good start.”
About his teammate and fellow center, Sofo said, “Shawn had a great season last year; he also played very well when we were teammates. I don’t see anything wrong with competition, and I hope we will both do good things for the team. I was very surprised that Maccabi lost the (Israeli) championship and so I think the first goal is to regain control and to once again be the strongest team in Israel.”
