Spahija: “We should’ve controlled the game way better”

Maccabi’s coach after the 79:81 home loss to Gilboa-Galil: “With fighting you have to add something extra, to bring extra quality to make some free throws, layups and make open shots, unfortunately we didn’t make it”. DeShaun: “It just came down to the little things”

Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv wanted to continue their momentum in the domestic league’s third round. Spahija’s squad took control over the first quarter, the visitors came back in the second quarter but the yellows managed to stay ahead. Galil completed their second comeback in the game to take the 79:81 win.

“We fight and we’ve tried but unfortunately in the last couple of minutes we lost the game by our mistakes”, said coach Neven Spahija. “they (Galil) played solid basketball, but I think we helped it a lot. At the end of the game against Haifa we knew we had a problem with the perimeter rotation, but that’s not an excuse we should’ve controlled the game way better and to fight is not enough, this league is very good. With fighting you have to add something extra, to bring extra quality to make some free throws, layups and make open shots, unfortunately we didn’t make it, Galil did and they won, they made that shots”.

“Everybody (on the team) wants to win”, said DeShaun Thomas who scored 20P. “Itai had a great game DeAndre came in, Karam,  and It just came down to the little things, rebounds, taking care of the ball, those little things you need to get over the hump. We got those against Haifa, in this game we didn’t. We’re going to need to regroup and keep those things in the back of our minds, those little things can also change the game to win”.
