The Yellow & Blue summarized another home EuroLeague win. Sfairopoulos praised Caloiaro: “He worked with humility throughout this period, tonight he showed the big heart he has”
After three straight EuroLeague road games, Maccabi Fox Tel Aviv came back home and took care of business defeating Villeurbanne 93:62 to improve to 7:4 on the season. During the game, Maccabi became the sixth team to reach the milestone of 35,000 points on the main European stage.
“I want to congratulate our players for their focus. This is an important win for us for many reasons”, Said coach Giannis Sfairopoulos after the game. “It will help our confidence, and with the way we played, we came back to our regular style of basketball on defense and offense. I’m very happy with our reaction after three losses. This is a team win and a big team effort. You can ask me about a lot of names, but everybody gave his heart to the team, and this is the most important thing”.
About Angelo Caloiaro’s return: “He was an important addition for us, and I want to thank the owners for allowing us to use him. He has quality and worked with humility throughout this period, even though he didn’t play games, and there were times he was practicing by himself. Tonight he showed the big heart he has. From now on, he is one of us”.
“I want to thank the fans, I know they wanted this win, and that’s what we tried to provide them tonight”, Concluded Sfairopoulos. “We have to continue it here at home, to fight for every game, and we want them on our side to support us”.
“A lot of guys showed a huge response, and it just goes to show we have a lot of professionals on this team”, Said Jake Cohen, who finished the night as Maccabi’s top scorer with 16 points (EuroLeague career-high). “We bounced back and stayed strong, tough knowing within this room, we have each other’s backs, as we stayed together and kept on working hard”.
“For me, it was just staying positive, to be in the gym and work. We don’t have many practices right now with all these games, so just getting in here by myself to be ready for the call”, Answered Angelo Caloiaro about what he has done during the time out. “I just play for this team and myself, I tried to play my game to hustle and be in the right spots, for me it was easy to go out there and have fun. The crowd is phenomenal, I love it here and everything about Tel Aviv”.
