Coach Giannis Sfairopoulos after the 97:73 loss to Baskonia on the road: “From the beginning until the end we didn’t have one good period defensively” .Michael Roll: “They took it to us for 40 minutes”
“Defensively we were very bad and from the beginning until the end we didn’t have one good period defensively”, said coach Giannis Sfairopoulos. “Baskonia played a great tempo game with a great rhythm, they controlled the rhythm all the time and we were not aggressive on defense to stop this rhythm and that’s why the difference from the beginning was in double digits and we couldn’t comeback to game, we need to learn from this game. This is a game that will show us how to continue from now until the end, we have nine more games and we need to fight harder and play better defense in all of these games”.
“They took it to us for 40 minutes”, said Michael Roll. “We let them control the tempo, we didn’t play well for 40 minutes we let them get comfortable and it showed out there 97 points for them is way too many. It’s a loss we’re going to learn from it, we can’t come out like that especially with nine games left. We’re going to watch film and really learn from it”.
“We just didn’t come out with enough energy”, said Scottie Wilbekin. “we didn’t come out strong enough on defense and we were a step behind them and always reacting to what they were doing, on the road you can’t do that. We allowed them to be too comfortable when they played on offense and they made all of their open shots and some tough shots but we just let them be too comfortable”.
