An inspiring 28-point performance from the American point guard, which included two crucial free throws in the last minute, won Maccabi its Euroleague opener against Bayern Munich (69:68) in front of a packed Menora Mivtachim Arena.
Maccabi started the game well but lost a 17 point lead and got dragged to a real thriller. Wilbekin, who suffered from muscle cramps during the game, scored the yellows’ last 9 points as part of a 12:3 run that left the win in Tel Aviv and sent over 10,000 fans home smiling.
Next Thursday, Maccabi will try to maintain the momentum against Red Star Belgrade at Menora Mivtachim.
